Starting Off
Precons
The pre-constructed decks ("precons") that come in the Master Set and subsequent expansions are generally not well balanced against each other due to the necessity of including 3 copies of each card. As such, some matchups can be so lopsided as to make the beginner experience unsatisfying. It is recommend after learning the basic rules and mechanics of the game to move on to the other constructed decks listed in the following sections.
Here is a list of matchups that are closer in balance and thus should offer a better first experience learning to play the game:
- Brennen v Rin
** Note this applies to player vs player ("pvp"). The Red Rains solo/coop game ("pve") has a campaign mode in which is it suggested you start with the precons.
First Adventure
Two deck from only the Master Set. These two decks are designed to be played against each other and offer a better experience for new player.

The Reconstructed Series
A series created by Plaid Hat Games that uses each precon as a base.
- Each deck must contain at least half of the original pre-con (15 cards)
- Each deck must contain at least 1 copy of the Phoenixborn unique card.
- Each deck may swap up to 1 die, but must only use the original dice types

Adventuring Party
A series of decks, each created from a complete collection. These decks are strongly recommended by the entire Discord community for players once they've learned the game. These can be played casually or competitively, and most match-ups within each set are balanced.
