Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn (1st Edition) Alternate Art

Alternate art created during the original run of Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn between 2015 and 2018.

Master Set Phoenixborn Alternate Art

Each of the six master set phoenixborn got an alternate art promo card. These arts were later reprinted for Ashes Reborn as prizes for the Team Covenant webcam league.

Promotional Phoenixborn

Three additional phoenixborn were released as promotions during 1.0: Dimona, Lulu and Orrick. Each was a mechanically unique phoenixborn with their own unique card, and each eventually got their own alternate art.

These three got their own regular expansions when they were reinvented as part of the Time cycle in Ashes Reborn. Dimona retained her Rayward Knight unique, while Lulu got new art for her Phoenix Barrage and her original alt art was repurposed as the Spark conjured alteration. Orrick's alt art became the art for his new unique spell, Concentration.

Enchanted Violinist

Enchanted Violinist was Ashes's first card to be reprinted with errata, shortly after the first print run of the Master Set. Originally released as an ally that cost only a main action, it was quickly updated with a 1-Basic cost that was used in subsequent printings of the master set and on the widely-distributed alt art. Unusually, the alternate art entirely supplanted the original in new master sets when the card was reprinted again in Ashes Reborn.

Alternate Art Allies & Conjurations

Four other allies received a pair of alternate arts each, and there were alternates for two conjurations: Gilder and Mist Spirit.

           

   

The alternate Hammer Knights were reprinted in Ashes Reborn as part of the first Reborn organized play kit.  The conjurations and one version of each of the other allies were also reprinted in Reborn as prizes for the Team Covenant webcam league.

Expansion Phoenixborn

The first two expansion phoenixborn, Rin and Brennen, released with a promotional playmat featuring both. The playmat art was also recut to create an alt art for each of the phoenixborn. The following two, Victoria and Leo, each got an alt art of their own on release.

   

The following wave introduced the Divine and Sympathy dice types, and Odette and Namine each got an alt art as well. Echo was featured on a promotional playmat, and that playmat art was recut into alts for Sonic Swordsman and Light Swordsman.

 

Phoenixborn Playmat Art

Each of the six master set phoenixborn, as well as Dimona who was a promotion included in the master set first printing, had playmat art created for them featuring each of the phoenixborn in their home environment. 

At the end of 1.0, the first six were reutilized on phoenixborn prize cards for the Complete Your Collection tournament.

 

The War Within

Three different pieces were created for the Phoenixborn Sembali as part of the War Within campaign. "Light" Sembali became the official card art at the conclusion of the campaign. "Dark" Sembali was not used, but would later be the inspiration for her second unique, Dark Reflection, during the Red Rains cycle.
